Personalizing the cart and free samples
Overview
Cart personalization lets shoppers add a personal touch to their order at the cart — a gift note, an engraving instruction, or any other custom field your storefront theme collects — and, where you offer them, choose free samples to add to their order.
Custom Cart Fields
On a theme that supports cart personalization, shoppers see fields such as a gift note or engraving instructions on the cart page. Whatever they enter is saved with their cart as they continue shopping and checking out.
Free Samples
Shoppers can pick from a small set of free samples you make available at the cart. Samples are a fulfillment instruction, not a purchasable line item — they don't need their own SKU, price, or inventory tracking.
How It Appears on the Order
Both the custom field values and the samples a shopper chose are saved onto the order alongside the rest of the order details, so your team has everything it needs when preparing and packing the shipment.

- Field values are plain text as entered by the shopper; review them before including anything directly on packaging
